Amit may not mean much or anything to most of us but to a particular individual, who provided a cause and dream to live for! Meet L.S Jaswal (above) residing in NOIDA, an industrial township of Uttar Pradesh lying on the periphery of Delhi.

An officer retired from Defence Services but ever young to fight for a cause, this lone soldier took upon himself a big challenge when he came across Amit - a little boy wandering around on street aimlessly while his parents worked as construction labour nearby. Captain Jaiswal started teaching Amit. Appreciating his genuine effort and passion, many individuals and then Smile Foundation joined hands to take this genuine endeavour further. The endeavour of empowering the society by educating deprived children from the needy communities. In no time no less than 250 children came under the initiative's caring arm.

From the very next day, Amit started multiplying in the sense that other children- friends and siblings of Amit - too joined in for study. Since then there has been no looking back. And came into existence Nai Disha Free Education Society (1997) - a non-governmental organization (NGO) formally registered with Government of Uttar Pradesh. Also in its wake the one-man army gained strength and grew into a regiment of half-a-dozen soldiers with similar dedication.

Started under a tree the 'school' found a donated car garage in order to accommodate growing number of Amits.
